Biography

Australian violinist Raistlin Chan has enjoyed a life devoted to the violin and is dedicated to building genuine connections with every audience. He continues to establish himself as an insightful and virtuosic musician, maintaining engagements as a soloist, recitalist as well as chamber musician.


In his pursuit of musical excellence, he is studying at the Australian National Academy of Music under the tutelage of Adam Chalabi and Zoë Black and is concurrently pursuing his Bachelor of Music at the Melbourne Conservatorium of music.

As an experienced musician, Raistlin was recently awarded first prize at the Preston Symphony Orchestra Youth Concerto Competition 2025 playing Saint-Saëns Concerto No. 3 in B minor Op. 61. His career as soloist and chamber musician has seen him awarded top prizes at the Australia Concerto and Vocal Competition, Austral Salon Outstanding Soloist Competition, Bach International Music Competition, Competition, Music Society of Victoria’s String and Chamber Music Competitions and Musica Viva’s Strike a Chord Competition.


As a seasoned orchestral player, Raistlin has performed with the Melbourne Chamber Orchestra, the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra as part of MYO’s side-by-side program as well as concertmaster of the VCASS chamber and symphony orchestras.


Raistlin is an alumnus of the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School (VCASS) where he was under the mentorship of Sophie Rowell and Monica Naselow. In 2022, he was awarded his AMEB Diploma Licentiate in music (LMusA) with Distinction. While at VCASS, he was generously supported by the Robert Stolz Viennese Music Society Scholarship, the Music Matinee Scholarship and the Simon Hisheh Scholarship Award.


Raistlin's artistic development has been further enriched by guidance from Elizabeth Layton, Rachael Beesley and Fintan Murphy.
